Hello Possums!

Brisbane has a wide variety of wild night creatures and not all of them are human. Possums are all over the place, eating their way through gardens across the city. Despite their quest to eat my veggies... and fighting with bats and chasing eachother across the roof... I think they are gorgeous!

I thought you spelled it wrong. But I see your cute possums are very different than our opposums in the states. Do they have a long rope-like tail?

Hi Gaelyn - their tail is long and quite thick and furry like the rest of them - I think it helps them balance. This one has a body that is about 12-18 inches long and the tail would be about 2 feet. They are marsupials so they carry their young around in their pouch and when they get older, the little ones ride on their backs, piggy-back style. It's quite a sight seeing them run up and down trees with this tiny baby clinging on tight.
There are other types of possum but this grey type is the most common one here in Brisbane.

Ann - I'm with you. Even though they're out every night I still have to stop talking when I see one!
